'[DOSMILVINT-I-U] [DOSMILVINT-I-TRES] = 1 encuentro' is the name of the final action of the first edition of Art and Context. Between October 2021 and June 2023, over 25 proposals have been activated in the form of workshops, conferences, performances, mediations, or collaborations, taking place in various spaces both inside and outside the museum, as well as online. These activities have generated connections across different layers of the Valencian context.
The members of the first edition of the program are Diego Navarro and Darío Alva, Claudia Dyboski, Marina González Guerreiro, Álvaro Porras, and M Reme Silvestre. The framework in which their practice is situated can be understood as a reaction to the instability of the present and the process of abstraction of contemporary reality. This reaction takes shape through the use of digital tools, the construction of speculative escapist narratives, the vindication of manual labor, or the critical review of historical processes. The exhibition continues the same idea that has articulated the program, understood as a generational encounter, a space for the exchange of influences and references beyond the museum.
The biannual program Art and Context proposes an opening of the research and production process of a group of artists related to the Valencian context and selected by a curatorial team invited by the IVAM. Therefore, the exhibition is conceived as another exercise within the public openings of the program, an open and non-conclusive process, a vindication of the gestation momentum of the works as a generative element of meaning. Behind whoever is currently reading this text, there can be observed a rhizomatic representation of all the voices and actions that have passed through and taken place in Art and Context, as well as a series of artifacts that have emerged over the course of the two years, as a result of the work of the artists in this first edition.
