Alex Reynolds
Bio
Alex Reynolds (Bilbao, 1978) graduated in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Her artistic practice revolves around a constant exploration of our modes of relationship and affection through multiple registers and formats, especially in the way as these are manifested through the film language . The viewer is the key factor in her work, who she challenges to explore new ways of relating to the narrative, questioning their preconceived expectations. Reynolds plays with the conventions of performance, storytelling and also with the role of the spectator, challenging our perception beyond the screen and the world of images.
His work has been exhibited in prominent contemporary art museums, galleries and festivals internationally such as; the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Index Foundation (Stockholm), Hollybush Gardens (London), Centre d’Art la Panera (Lleida), Galería Marta Cervera (Madrid) or the Joan Miró Foundation (Barcelona), among others. Her films have been screened at cinemas and festivals such as the BFI London Film Festival (London), the FIDMarseille (Marseille) or Documenta Madrid. She has also received grants from the Akademie Schloss Solitude (2013), the Botín Foundation (2016) and the “la Caixa” Foundation (2020), and has received the Loop / Arts Santa Mònica / XAV Videocreation Award (2021). She is a visiting professor at KASK Ghent and a member of the research group Social Acoustics: Communities inMovement.
