Boiler Room. Secció editorial. Colectivo Aplec de disseny
Press release
Within the Boiler Room new exhibition program, Luis Adelantado Valencia is pleased to present the Aplec de disseny group of graphic designers, whose first exhibition Secció editorial will take place on October 29.
As described in Alvaro de los Angeles’s text entitled Designing until we make gestures disappear, “The Secció editorial exhibition is the staging and first presentation of a joint aim. The publications collected mostly show art catalogues, but also self-published works, renewal booklets, their own publishing houses and the d[x]i publishing project with its derivate satellites, all of them being different examples of a kind of design that seems to recover a taste for rhythms, including within them pauses and even silence. Perhaps the only thing linking these outstanding sophisticated and complex levels of reading is the will of an own voice–that of individuality outside collective encounters–, which rescues the simplicity of the approach and seems incorruptible in terms of the results”.
This group–formed by six designers–shares a common generation and a range of collective interests. Beyond their background, there is a joint conceptualization, a way of understanding design reflected in the following statement: “The publications transpire a certain freedom of movement, which was gained for the project (and previously, for designers) offering extra space to sober, balanced and–ultimately-existing creative licenses”.
According to the Boiler Room’s exhibition line, our aim is to establish hybrid dialogues and accommodate new creative practices to complement and enrich our gallery’s discourse. For the occasion, over 50 publishing projects will be displayed–ranging from the year 2000 to the present–, works which are somehow linked to the world of culture. All of them were made by the collective work of this new group, formed by Sebastian Alós, Dídac Ballester, Antonio Ballesteros, Alejandro Benavent, Enrique Casp and Iban Ramón. Thus, we propose opening a small forum for discussion and reflection upon graphic design.
